The job description seemed quite demanding:
The Fashion Editor works to produce tight, fresh, modern features for the fashion pages. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience managing photo shoots; handling market work; generating current story ideas; and managing stylists and prop-closet inventory. Extensive contacts in the fashion world are essential, as well as the ability to meet tight deadlines.
But, in the personal statement I attached with my application, I did my best to reassure them that I was more than up to the job:
I am willing and able to produce a range of features for the fashion pages – whether they need to be tight or loose, fresh or not so fresh, modern or retro. I have considerable experience of managing photo shoots – both internal and external, and also have worked with both children and animals. I enjoy generating story ideas, and have attached some sample ideas below this written statement. Finally, I have a number of important contacts within the world of fashion…
I didn't feel it prudent to mention that my considerable experience of managing photo shoots involved a £100 Samsung digital camera. However, I do have a wide variety of contacts in the world of fashion - for instance, there's Emma (who works in Top Shop) and Greg (who works in Primark) and that's just for starters...However, the icing on the (already impressive) cake of my application was surely the three fashion stories that I attached along with my personal statement. I feel sure these will be certain to sway things in my favour:
Story Idea 1
Bulgarian fashion is on the very cusp of taking the world by storm and I think it would be wonderful to use the scenic town of
Story Idea 2
The return of clogs as a must-have fashion item – for decades shunned, the clog is now the epitome of fine European fashion and I’d recommend a fashion shoot with some major stars such as Kate Moss, on location in Amsterdam, showing off clogs (possibly while lying amongst piles of Edam).
Story Idea 3
With fur and animal skin increasingly seen as a fashion no-no, should we consider the use of bark for coats, bags and accessories? Possibly an article examining the merits of the Larch as a replacement for chinchilla fur…
If you get one of these jobs, could I be your assistant?
ReplyDeleteAs proven here, I can type and I can handle a telephone and fax. I speak English and Dutch, am living in the Netherlands (working from home is also an option) and I am looking for a new job, because the one I got now isn't quite healthy for me.
I can also shop (although I'm not quite fond of it, which is weird since I'm a woman), make lovely tea and make homemade lemonade (which my boyfriend loves).
Also, I'm pretty good at destroying ego's from people around me (including my own), but that is a good thing, I think. You can't get too much ego around me.
Charlotte - thank you for your kind offer. I will certainly take it under consideration - especially if you are able to make lemonade in the office...
ReplyDeleteLil'Terrorist - now, don't be shy and beat around the bush! Tell us what you really think! :-)
hahhaha.
ReplyDeleteYou are hilarious.
I wish I could be that ballsy...
